If you’ve tried my ranch dressing recipe (it’s seriously the best) you’ll love this idea for a dry spice mix with all of the same flavors. Plus I’ll show you how to turn this into that dressing or make a dip with it.

You can also use this seasoning to flavor baked or grilled chicken, air fryer ranch potatoes, and other vegetables or make a crispy snack with chickpeas.

Ingredients

See the recipe card for exact amounts.

A bowl of spices and herbs on a white counter labeled as parsley, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, chives, onion powder, and dill.
  • dried herbs: you’ll need parsley, dill, and chives.
  • spices: garlic powder and onion powder.
  • optional: Most store-bought ranch seasoning packets (like the Hidden Valley Ranch one) contain buttermilk powder for the classic tangy flavor. This isn’t an ingredient I keep on hand, but I do keep nutritional yeast (for the B12!). Nutritional yeast isn’t the same as milk powder, but it does have a savory kind of umami flavor. You can leave this out with no worries and just use the dried herbs and spices and still get that ranch flavor.

Substitutions

Dip or dressing: if you want to make a dip or salad dressing with this dry seasoning mix, substitute dairy-free or vegan ingredients where needed.

My ranch dressing recipe calls for mayonnaise, Greek yogurt, sour cream, and milk to thin it.

Use vegan mayonnaise if needed (I like Hellman’s vegan mayo). Substitute both the Greek yogurt and sour cream for coconut yogurt (I like the one by Riviera).

Use dairy-free milk like almond milk or oat milk for a completely dairy-free version.

Prep Tips

  • You’ll need a small jar like a mason jar or jam jar or a container with a lid. You can mix and store the seasoning in the jar.
Yellow nutritional yeast flakes are poured into a jar.
  1. Add all of the ingredients to the jar. Alternatively, you can stir or whisk the ingredients in a small bowl.
A jar of dried spices and herbs is shaken by hand.
  1. Add the lid and shake to combine.

That’s it, it’s done. Seriously.

Use it as is or try a dip or dressing below.

Tips for making homemade seasoning mixes

  • Double or triple the ingredients to make a big batch and make dinner prep easier.
  • I like to make all of my seasoning mixes without salt so that I can season as needed in recipes.

What to use ranch seasoning for

There are so many great ways to use this dairy-free ranch seasoning for everyday meal prep. Toss the mix on French fries or potatoes before baking.

Coat chicken cutlets or strips with oil and ranch mix for a flavorful baked or grilled chicken dinner. Coat chickpeas in the mix for a fun snack. Or make a homemade ranch dip or dressing for salad.

Try my ranch dressing recipe or this jalapeno ranch dressing.

Storage

Store the spice mix in an airtight container with a lid. I prefer to use a small glass jar and I typically have several of my spice mixes made at a time. When stored properly, dried seasoning mixes last about a year.
