Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix is even better than store-bought - it's easy and more budget friendly! This easy autumn inspired 5 minute spice mix is loaded with fall flavor and requires only 5 spices.

    Pumpkin Pie Spices in bowls

Pumpkin pie spice is a warm blend of spices commonly used in pumpkin pie and various other fall themed baking recipes, including hot drinks like Pumpkin Spice Lattes.

I like to use my homemade pumpkin pie spice recipe in my Pumpkin Pie Overnight Oats and my Pumpkin Scones. It's also perfect for that Thanksgiving pumpkin pie.

Canadian Thanksgiving is in October, so to me October is pumpkin month but really, what's wrong with pumpkin pie spiced baking at any time of the year, right?

    Instructions

Whether you are making a small batch or a large batch the process is simple.

    1. Add the spices to a container that has a lid.
    2. Shake or stir it up.
    3. Use right away or add the lid to the container and store the mix in your pantry.

    Substitutions

Add more cloves and allspice if you want a more punchy spice mix.

✔ This recipe is vegetarian, vegan and gluten free (as with most spice mixes).

    Storage

Store in a container with a lid.

Spice blends are good for around 6 months stored in a cool dark place like a pantry.

    Equipment

You'll need a container with a lid. I like mini mason jars, linked below.

    Why Make Homemade Spice Mixes?

So why would you make homemade spice mixes when it's so easy to just buy it from the store, ready made?

    Because:

    • it's cheaper in the long run - spices are cheaper in larger quantities. Specific blends are more costly.
    • flavors are better/fresher
    • you can control which flavors you like - ditch the cloves if you want to
    • no weird additives
    • it's fun to make things from scratch
    • you can give them as gifts - fun for the holidays!
