This homemade peanut butter syrup is an easy way to add real peanut butter flavor to coffee, iced lattes, or desserts. It takes just three ingredients and a few minutes on the stove.

My favorite way to use it is with homemade toasted marshmallow syrup in a peanut butter marshmallow iced latte, inspired by a Fluffernutter.

Sugar, water, and peanut butter for homemade syrup
  • Sugar and water: the two basic ingredients for any simple syrup. Granulated white sugar sweetens and gives the syrup a smooth, pourable consistency.
  • Peanut butter: smooth peanut butter gives the syrup its peanut butter flavor and is easiest to mix.

Tips for Making Peanut Butter Syrup

  • Use smooth peanut butter. You don’t need little chunks of peanut in the syrup.
  • Whisk continuously after adding the peanut butter. This helps it fully incorporate into the hot syrup.
  • Don’t heat it for longer than necessary. Once the peanut butter is smooth and incorporated, it’s ready.
  • Let it cool before storing. The syrup will thicken slightly as it cools.

Instructions

  1. Heat over medium-high heat, whisking often, until the mixture comes to a boil and the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Add the peanut butter and whisk continuously for another 1–2 minutes, until the peanut butter is completely melted into the syrup and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Remove from the heat and let the syrup cool.
  4. Pour it into a clean jar, add a lid, and refrigerate.
