30 minute Bourbon meatballs, with a homemade honey bourbon sauce – spicy, sweet and tangy. The perfect tasty appetizer meatball or great for weeknight dinner with a bowl of fluffy buttery potatoes and honey butter carrots.
3teaspoonssambal oelekor sriracha or 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Meatballs
1lbground beef or ground turkey
1large egg
½cupfresh bread crumbs*
2tablespoonschopped fresh parsley
1teaspoonsalt
½teaspoonblack pepper
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Meatballs
Mix together all of the meatball ingredients. Scoop meatballs in 1 1/2 tablespoons sized portions onto a lined baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
Honey Bourbon Sauce
Make the sauce. Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Add oil and onions and cook for about 5 minutes or until softened. Add garlic and cook another minute. In a bowl, mix together the water, honey, vinegar, molasses, and sambal oelek.
Carefully add the bourbon to the pan. Cook for a minute or 2. Add the water mixture. Bring to a boil and then cook over medium-high, whisking occasionally, for about 15 minutes or until thickened to your preferred consistency.
Serve the sauce spooned over the top of the meatballs, or toss cooked meatballs into the pan of sauce and toss to coat.
Notes
I made fresh bread crumbs - I used a food processor to blend up fresh bread, not dry bread crumbs. I like to do this for meatballs to give them moisture.
