If you loave the Loaded Fries category on my website, you'll love this loaded sweet potato wedges recipe.

You'll first cut the sweet potato into wedges and then season them before roasting them in the air fryer. Using an air fryer for sweet potato wedges helps lower the cooking time and results in super crispy sweet potato fries.

Make my simple Sriracha Honey Sauce for drizzling and dipping and crumble over fresh tangy feta cheese for a dish that is a bold mix of sweet, savory, spicy, and salty!

Ingredients

Ingredients to make sweet potato wedges and a honey sriracha sauce on a marble counter.
  • sweet potatoes: sweet potatoes are the main ingredients here, and are a great source of vitamin A, vitamin C, and potassium, and fiber. Plus, they have a fantastic slightly sweet taste that pair well with contrasting savory and spicy flavors.
  • Italian seasoning: to add flavor to the sweet potato wedges. I use my own recipe which includes basil, parsley, oregano, garlic, onion, rosemary, and crushed red pepper.
  • Sriracha honey sauce: I use my sriracha honey recipe for this which is made with butter, honey, sriracha, lime juice, and sesame oil. This add a sweet and spicy flavor boost.
  • feta cheese: Salty, tangy feta cheese provides a great contrast to the sweet potatoes and helps balance the flavors.
  • fresh oregano leaves: Fresh oregano leaves top off the dish for an herby earthy finish.

Substitutions

  • Italian seasoning: use your favorite spice mix instead. Try my Everyday Seasoning.
  • sriracha honey sauce: you could try making a simple hot honey like I do for my Fig + Goat Cheese Pizza by mixing 1 tablespoon of honey with 1 teaspoon of Sambal Oelek or Sriracha Hot Sauce. Try Sweet Chili Sauce.
  • feta cheese: try goat cheese with is also tangy and creamy, or a Mexican Queso Fresco.
  • fresh oregano: Try another fresh herb like basil, cilantro, or parsley. Try sliced green onions or simply omit the garnish.

How to Serve Air Fryer Sweet Potato Wedges

Stack the wedges on a platter or on individual serving plates. Drizzle with the sriracha hot sauce, crumble the feta cheese on top, and scatter the fresh oregano leaves on. Serve with a small dipping bowl of the sauce.

Tips for making sweet potato wedges in an air fryer

  • space: leave space in between the sweet potato wedges when you put them in your air fryer basket. Placing them too close together doesn't allow the hot air to circulate properly and then your wedges can steam and have a soft texture instead of a crispy outer texture.
  • same size: it doesn't matter if your sweet potatoes aren't the same size but try to cut the wedges the same size so they cook evenly.
  • seasoning: use your favorite seasoning and favorite dip with this easy method for cooking sweet potatoes.
  • flip: make sure to flip the wedges halfway (after about 10 minutes) so that the can brown evenly.

What to serve with Sweet Potato Wedges

Go for the old classic combo of burgers and fries and serve these crispy sweet potato wedges with a Black Bean Veggie Burger, Butternut Squash Burger, Greek Turkey Burger, or a Crispy Chicken Burger.

For a more veggie-themed meal, serve them with a side Corn Salad, some roasted Broccoli + Carrots, or my Fried Oyster Mushrooms.

Storage

Store leftover wedges by themselves, not garnished. Keep them in the fridge for 4-5 days and reheat in the air fryer for 5-8 minutes at 350°F.

FAQs

How do I prevent the sweet potato wedges from sticking to the air fryer basket?

To prevent sweet potato wedges from sticking to the air fryer basket, lightly coat the basket with cooking spray or toss the wedges in a small amount of oil before placing them in the air fryer.

Can I season the sweet potato wedges with different spices?

Yes, sweet potato wedges can be seasoned with a variety of spice mixes and individual spices such as paprika, cumin, chili powder, or dried herbs like rosemary and thyme for added flavor.

What dipping sauces go well with air fryer sweet potato wedges?

Sriracha honey sauce goes well with sweet potatoes because its spicy flavor contrasts well with the sweet wedges. Other good dips are sriracha mayo or ranch dip.

Can I use an oven instead of an air fryer to make sweet potato wedges?

Sweet potato wedges can also be roasted in the oven at 400°F until they are crisp and golden. Turn the wedges often. This will take longer than air frying - about an hour.

How long should I preheat the air fryer before cooking sweet potato wedges?

The air fryer should be preheated for 3-5 minutes before cooking the wedges so that it can get to the optimal temperature.

Notes

Try your favorite seasoning mixes and dips to go with these easy air fryer sweet potato wedges.
I use a Cuisinart Convection Toaster Oven Air Fryer. I think it may cook faster than some basket-style air fryers, so check your potatoes often.
